Quilt Ministry

Mission Statement:
Quilts from the Bluffs is a ministry of First Christian Church of Council Bluffs, Iowa, designed to show love and support to sick, traumatized, or otherwise hurting individuals in the area with a gift of a new, handmade quilt created by volunteer quilters. We also teach and encourage the art of quilting to interested individuals in the community free of charge.

A quilt ministry allows those with a love a quilting to come together to share their craft with those in need. A quilt offers comfort and a tangible way to show others that someone cares about them. In the process of creating the quilts, friendships form within the group and we begin to minister and support each other. This is a group that does not have an age bracket and is a great way to mentor to younger generations by teaching a skill and showing one way to give to others.

Recipients
The quilts we make go to various organizations and individuals in the community such as Project Linus, Gabrielle’s Corner, Mercy Hospital Critical Care Unit and others by request.

Who can join?
The group is open to anyone at any skill level from never quilted before to expert quilter. All ages are welcome but we ask that anyone under age 13 is accompanied by an adult. You do not need to be a member of FCC so please invite your friends outside the church to participate.

When do we meet?
We meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month at the church (Children's Wing lower level).   The room will be open from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and you can come anytime within that period as it fits your schedule.  There are no commitments or minimum requirements for what you contribute.

What do I bring?
Bring the following items with you on quilt day if you have them:

Quilt kits including patterns and fabric will be provided. Donations of new cotton or flannel fabric or quilt batting are accepted.
